KADS Idukki Organic Project

Service Provider- Under National Project on Organic Farming (Government of India)

Service Provider- Under National Project on Organic Farming (Government of India), the Idukki organic project was introduced in 2002 adhering to the world class IFOAM norms for organic farming. The development of organic farming at small and marginal levels through programmes like certification, adopting organic management practices, establishment of organic village etc. are carried out in the project. The main crops covered in the project are cocoa, banana, vegetables, fruits, spices, vanilla, coconut, jackfruit, papaya etc., covering an area of 1795 Hectares covering 2000 farmers under 103 organic ICS groups with the active co-operation of governmental agencies like Spices Board, SHM, NCOF etc. These products are certified by Lacon Quality Certification.

KADS Seed Bank

KADS Seed Bank

A seed bank is working near to KADS H.O. in a 1000 sq. ft. building to provide quality seeds and planting materials in all seasons to strengthen the local availability of traditional seeds to the farmers. Varieties of ethnic seeds and seedlings from different parts of Kerala, planting material, organic manures, biofertilizers, bio pesticide, grow bags are available throughout the year from this outlet. Ethnic seeds are collected in association with reputed universities and research centres all over India

Farmers open Market (FOM)

Farmers open Market (FOM)

‘Farmers ‘open Market (FOM) Sells farm produce directly to the customers realizing fair price to farmers. The FOM is essentially open only to those who are registered farmers. FOM facilitates to earn 15 – 20% higher price to farmers than in other market. In addition, KADS offers 30% extra price on ‘organic’ produce, the market for which is increasing. The ‘FOM’ has two section. First is ‘Daily Sale Centre’ (Retail outlet), where farmers sell perishable commodities directly to the customers. Second is ‘Village Collection Centre’, located at different parts of the district to collect agricultural produce.

KADS has 3 outlets, one outlet in the H.O at Ernakulam and a seed bank near to H.O.

In the year 2017, KADS formed a new venture called KERALA AGRI DEVELOPMENT& SUSTAINABLE PRODUCER CO.LTD. registered under companies act 13/1956 which is a farmer producer organization. The company is formed by raising funds by issuing shares to farmers with a face value of single chair of Rs.10. The voting rights are limited to the shareholders who are having a minimum of 20000 shares.

Knowing the growing customers from Ernakulam, the industrial city, KADS started a new outlet at Alinchuvadu, Near Palarivattom in the year 2015. In the year 2016, the outlet converted to a 10000 sq. ft open market providing all the farming produce like organic – ethnic vegetables, planting material, pets, ethnic food court, spices, meat, fish, chick etc. under one roof. Ernakulam market is established in the year 2017 with an average turnover of rs.4crore annually by selling agricultural commodities. Products are organic or certified organic producers which will help to benefit of the people. After experiencing the success stories the management is decided to open more outlets/ Franchises in and around EKM city. A small outlet is operating in the High court advocates building for the health and wellbeing of the advocates.

We have decided to open more outlets all over Kerala. All the producers are yielded from Mankulam organic village and nearby villages in the district of Idukki

Collection Center

Collection Center

KADS has 6 collection centers located at different parts of District for the conveyance of farmers. The main products collected are Bananas, Egg, Papaya, Jackfruit, Kumbalam, Mathan, Payar, Chena, Chembu, Tapioca, Kachil, Inchi etc. Seasonal (Seethakala) vegetables like carrot, cabbage, potato, etc. are collected directly from farmers at Marayoor, Kanthalloor and Vattavada. Seasonal fruits like plum, strawberry, fashion fruit etc. are easily available with farmers of this area.

KADS Green Fest – Vithu Maholsavam

KADS Green Fest – Vithu Maholsavam

Green fest is conducted every year in the month of April in relation to Pathamudayam – The Planting season – to promote agricultural production and marketing activities under the initiatives of KADS. The main purpose of this trade fair is to provide necessary facilities to exhibit local and traditional seeds and planting material and make them available to the farmers for cultivation. The fest covers various activities like product competition, farmers quiz, arts & literary competitions based on agriculture, farmers seminars, exhibitions etc. Over 25,000 farmers visiting the fair annually.

Farmers Awards

Every year KADS provides a Jaivasree Award to a selected farmer who has made outstanding performance in organic farming. Merit certificates are also distributed to farmers who have made successful contributions under organic farming. The prizes and certificates are distributed by holding a public meeting with the participation of all sections of the society.

KADS PCL took a new initiative called ATHIVASI SETTLEMENT in association with UNDP (United Nation Development Programme) to certify above 500 tribal farmers for their quality organic products which is first time initiative and also, they produce all varieties of spices, tuber from the virgin soil. They produce wild honey too.

Seminars and Workshops

One of the focusing area of the organisation is to conduct seminars & workshops connected with agricultural development activities in collaboration with research organisations, universities, Government departments etc. During the 16 years of KADS’ functioning, it has organized 1500 training programmes and nearly 900 seminars on organic agricultural and allied activities for the benefit of the farmers

KADS PCL arranged dedicated 160 seater,1500 sq ft a/c high-tech training centre with all modern facility including pantry inorder to train the farmers from seed to store. The training is lead Prof. Dr. K. G. Kurian along with advisory support of followed eminent personalities like Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas, Dr. M. Gopinath Reddy, Prof. K. V. Peter, K.Y. Clement, Mr. K. M. Basheer.
